We designed and implemented a completely new website for the City of Ranua. The three-site multisite service was implemented using the WordPress content management system. The service package includes the following websites: ranua.fi, ranuanlukio.fi and Ranua’s intranet.

Ranua’s new brand identity shines online with a strong and attractive presence. The visual look is prominently featured on the website, with graphic elements from the brand used in a versatile and engaging way.

Project overview

  1. Objectives

    The previous website, last updated in 2016, had reached the end of its life in terms of technology, responsiveness and accessibility.

    In addition, the new service package was expected to significantly improve the visibility of available housing, business premises and plots. As nature plays a central role in the city’s strategy, highlighting outdoor and hiking opportunities in a user-friendly way was also considered important.

    The primary user groups for the website are local residents and part-time inhabitants. Other key target groups include people planning to move to Ranua, builders, businesses and tourists.

    From a user experience perspective, the main objectives were simplicity and a clear site structure.

  2. Strong design

    Ranua’s new brand identity shines online with a strong and attractive presence. The visual look is prominently featured on the website, with graphic elements from the brand used in a versatile and engaging way.

  3. Content

    Municipal websites are typically very content-heavy, and Ranua’s new site is no exception. It includes a wide range of tailored content types such as pages, articles, events, plots, an employee guide, a study guide, village profiles and lunch menus.

    To present this content effectively, nearly 20 custom content blocks were designed and implemented.

  4. Key features

    Despite its simplicity, the website is highly functional. Key features include a plot search, a plot submission form, an event search, employee guides and a contact information archive.

  5. Technology

    The new ranua.fi website was built using the WordPress content management system. As the project also needed to include the city’s intranet and the Ranua Upper Secondary School website, a WordPress multisite setup was used in the implementation.

  6. Care and further development

    After the launch, we are responsible for the website’s care, including ongoing support, further development and assistance services.
